PROGRAM INFO:

Committee Reports due August 15.

Email to saldridge@npcc.edu or mail to address above.

This week:

PANEL OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL COACHES

Join us as we see how the new NCAA rankings affect our local high schools.  The coaches will give us insight into how the teams are shaping up and who to watch during the fall.

This would be a great program to wear your Rotary Shirts!  After all, what is more casual than "talkin' football"?

Last week:

OUACHITA AREA COUNCIL (OAC) BOY SCOUTS' NATIONAL JAMBOREE

Fellow Rotarians Kirby Williams (President of the OAC) and Joe Farrell (Scout Executive for the OAC) presented the illustrious history of the Boy Scouts in Hot Springs and how our club was instrumental in establishing the first troop in 1917.  Joe Farrell presented a National Jamboree patch to President Susan Aldridge.

Collin Carter, Assistant Scoutmaster, showed the slides of the trip to the National Jamboree by the 40 Boy Scouts from Hot Springs.  The boys spent 3 days touring Washington, D.C. prior to the beginning of the Jamboree.  It was interesting to "see" Washington, D. C. through the eyes of a young person.

Ouachita Area Council is holding a SPORTING CLAYS CLASSIC

August 26-27 at Mountain Valley Sportsman Association in Hot Springs.

What is this?  Kirby explained it as a Golf Tournament with a shotgun...actually Sporting Clays is a fun and entertaining clay target game designed to simulate field shooting.  On a Sporting Clays course, shooters are presented with a wide variety of targets that simulate the flight path of game birds, such as flushing, crossing, incoming and other angling shots.  Representative Mike Ross, an avid shot gunner, is the Honorary Chairman and will attend.  Contact the Ouachita Area Council at 623-6601 for more information.

GUESTS

Clarence Jordan was back - and in fine fettle!

Clarence welcomed our guests.  E. B. Sullivan was the guest of Bob Evans; Mark Hunt hosted Tom Martin (Arkadelphia Sunrise Rotary); Robin Karsten brought Charles Reinhart and Charles Smith had Nate Robinson as his guest.

Our other guests were visiting Rotarians from Oaklawn:  Pete Blakeslee, Steve Trusty, Jan Laggan and Frank Schultz.

                  RED BADGE TO BLUE

MARTHA RODGERS

WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS GIFT!

Thanks to the thoughtfulness of a fellow Rotarian, Larry Averill, and with the approval of the 04-05 4-Way Test Committee - we have a wonderful new 4-Way Test sign.  As a relatively "new" member to our club and yet a long-time Rotarian, Larry noticed our old, well-worn 4 Way Test board and decided to do something about it.

This gift is in the same vein as our beautiful Presidents' Plaque that is on view in front of the podium each week.  That plaque (plus another one that is already filled and in our cabinet) were gifts to our club by Art Larson and Lew Lyle.

These Rotarians gave these gifts because they were needed - and we thank them!
